THE CANONICITY OF THE CHURCH.

Because we are attached to Christ by an episcopal ordination made according to the liturgical rite of the first three centuries of the Christian Church,

Because we are faithful to the magisterium establishing a normal administration within the church thus allowing the implementation of the realizations demonstrating our faith in          Jesus Christ;

FORMATION OF OUR PRIESTS.

The Higher Institute of Orthodox Theology.

FOUNDATION:

The Higher Institute of Orthodox Theology of Yaounde (HIOTY) in Cameroon was founded on 27 November 2015 by the will of the Eternal God, the Holy Synod of the Autonomous Orthodox Church of Africa (AOCA) and the charism of His Beatitude Pierre De Christ ATYAM MOTO, primate in exercise of the EOAA. (French web link of HIOTY : http://istoy.onlc.fr/ )

OBJECTIVES:

The purpose of the HIOTY is to train the priests, bishops and orthodox theologians of all the churches who aspire to apostolic fidelity and especially to provide the traditional, independent and autonomous churches of Cameroon, Africa and the world with a hand Professional workforce.

ECUMENISM:

Artisan of the Unity of the Church without Unity, the AOCA is a founding member of the Council of Charismatic Christian Churches of Cameroon which work for the rapprochement of all the Congregations of faith in Jesus Christ who are present in Cameroon.

The AOCA is also a co-founding coopting member of the Custodia Ecumenica Santa Maria (whose we have suspended activities in our jurisdiction until we are able to specify the canonical objectives, as the Universal Church wants, as well as other Administrative aspects of this institution).

To this end, priests, bishops and theologians from all the churches who are members of these organizations for Unity without Unicity are welcomed and trained according to their needs by HIOTY.

DIPLOMAS:

HIOTY trains students for the following cycles and levels:

- Licence in Orthodox Theology.

Prepared after the Baccalaureate or an equivalent degree, the cycle of license is spread over three years organized in six semesters of ten courses each. Only those who have passed the entrance exam for this purpose are admitted to this cycle.

- Master in Orthodox Theology.

The student enrolling in Master 1 must possess a degree of theology equivalent to a valid license by the board of professors of  HIOTY. The duration of the studies is two semesters.

Registration in Master 2 is possible if the student has validated all the credits of Master 1. The corresponding diploma is the condition for entering the doctorate. The duration of studies is two semesters.

- Doctorate in Orthodox Theology.

The diploma corresponding to the completion of studies in Master 2 constitutes the condition for admission to the doctorate. The Doctoral degree in Orthodox Theology is currently the highest grade of ISTOY's academic studies. The duration of the studies is three years. They are held within the ISTOY compound in Yaounde.

DISTANCE TRAINING

Distance theological formation is made upon request addressed to the Rector of HIOTY. It is divided into three levels of fourteen materials each. The training for each subject includes a booklet and a bibliography. The preparation of a dissertation and an oral examination sanction each level of training. The Licence in Orthodox Theology is obtained by each student who successfully passed all three levels of training.

AFFILIATED ESTABLISHMENTS:

To date, five theological schools are affiliated with ISTOY.

It is:

      1- Saint John Bart Beh Ongo (STOBO) Orthodox Theology Seminary in Yaoundé, Cameroon.  (web link: http://stobo.onlc.fr/  )

       2- Novitiate Saint Photios I of Bertoua in Cameroon;

       3- Novitiate San Domanio of Accra in Ghana;

       4- Novitiate Saint Augustine of Brazzaville in the Congo;

       5- Pastoral Training Institute of Ba'aba in Cameroon.

These seminaries train and prepare priests and other ministers of worship in the higher formation in Orthodox theology.

The Baccalaureate in Orthodox Theology (BTO) is the diploma that crowns all four years of training in these institutions.

Candidates for formation in these seminaries are admitted either by recommendation of a church or a religious authority, or by the request of the candidate addressed to the rector of the seminary. In either case, applicants must then successfully pass the entrance examination which is mandatory for all.

We received some time ago the request for academic tutelage of the Formation Seminary of the Congregation of the Companions of Saint Augustine of Cameroon. This file is under study.

We invite here all the communities present in Cameroon and in Africa, which have training institutions and who lack either academic tutelage or qualified personnel to prepare their learners, to get closer to us to benefit from the availability of our Body of teachers.
